IENA Board Biographies

Kathryn Spurgetis, BSN

Kathryn serves IENA as a Director-at-Large.

Kathryn received her BSN from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN in 2010, and promptly moved back to her hometown of Spokane, WA. She began working at Clarebridge of Spokane, an Alzheimer's facility, followed by Manor Care, a skilled nursing facility, for three years. In 2013, after a series of her own medical difficulties and multiple surgeries later, she started working on the inpatient surgical floor at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Nursing has always been Kathryn’s passion since she was in the third grade. She always saw it as a profession where she could help people while also seeing really awesome things happen with the human body. But when she became the patient, she saw a whole new meaning to the profession of nursing. One where nursing is all about meeting a person in their darkest hour, and helping them get better, encouraging them, and pushing them when they have nothing left, but most importantly, teaching them things about their "new" body that could be foreign or hard to grasp, even for a medically trained person. She has learned that education is a big part of medicine, and one that can't be utilized if not supported from management and unions. Therefore, she is most excited about serving IENA due to their emphasis on education, and getting to learn about the ins and outs of the organization.

Kathryn joined the IENA Board of Directors as a Director-at-Large in 2017, and will serve a two-year term.
